THIS PAPER EXAMINES THE EFFECTIVENESS OF A PROGRAM DESIGNED TO HELP PROSPECTIVE PROBATIONERS OBTAIN JOB REFERRAL AND PLACEMENT.
Abstract
THE PROJECT WAS ORIGINALLY SPONSORED BY THE DOUGLAS COUNTY PUBLIC DEFENDER'S OFFICE IN NEBRASKA FOR A 24-MONTH PERIOD BEGINNING MAY 1973. HOWEVER, IT LATER ACCEPTED CLIENTS OF PRIVATE ATTORNEYS. THE CLIENTS ARE PREDOMINATELY MALE (84 PERCENT) AND YOUNG - MORE THAN HALF ARE UNDER 24. THE EVALUATION SUGGESTED THAT THE AGENCY GIVE CONTINUING ATTENTION TO ADMINISTRATIVE SUPERVISION, AND THAT AN OPERATION MORE SENSITIVE TO UNION SUPPORT BE DEVELOPED. THE EVALUATION ALSO QUESTIONED WHETHER THE AGENCY REALIZED ITS PURPOSE DURING THE EVALUATIVE YEAR....BDS
