HOW THE MUNICIPAL BUDGET CRISIS HAS AFFECTED POLICE DEPARTMENTS IS THE SUBJECT OF THIS ARTICLE.
Abstract
SCORES OF MAJOR CITIES HAVE HAD TO HANDLE BUDGET PROBLEMS IN THE PAST FEW YEARS. THIS HAS OFTEN LED TO LAYOFFS OF MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES AND CUTBACKS IN MUNICIPAL SPENDING. IN SOME OF THESE CASES POLICE DEPARTMENTS HAVE BEEN AFFECTED IN A SIGNIFICANT MANNER. OFTEN, POLICE HAVE NOT RECEIVED PAY RAISES THEY HAD COME TO EXPECT. ANGRY DEMONSTRATIONS AND INSTANCES OF 'BLU FLU' HAVE BEEN THE RESULT. THE AUTHOR BELIEVES THAT UNTIL THE MUNCIPAL BUDGET CRISES CLEAR UP, THE FUTURE WILL BE MARKED BY ANGER AND CONFRONTATION BETWEEN THE POLICE AND CITY HALL....BDS
