AN ASSESSMENT OF THE ORGANIZATION, GOALS, RECORDS, STAFFING, AND PROGRAMS OF THE FREMONT SCHOOL HOUSE, WHICH PROVIDES PUBLIC EDUCATION AND DIRECT SERVICES TO YOUTHS IN ORDER TO REDUCE DRUG ABUSE.
Abstract
THE SCHOOL HOUSE IS LOCATED FOUR MILES WEST OF FREMONT IN A BUILDING WHICH HAD BEEN USED AS A SCHOOL HOUSE UNTIL 1962 BY THE FREMONT SCHOOL SYSTEM. THE SERVICES OF THE SCHOOL HOUSE INCLUDE PUBLIC AWARENESS AND EDUCATION SERVICES SUCH AS PUBLIC SPEAKING, DISCUSSION GROUPS, AND HEALTH INFORMATION. DIRECT SERVICES SUCH AS A CRISIS PHONE LINE, REFERRAL SERVICES, CONSTRUCTIVE RECREATION, AND A COURT REFERRAL PROGRAM ARE ALSO PROVIDED. DATA FOR THE EVALUATION WAS GATHERED BY SUCH METHODS AS INTERVIEWS WITH STAFF AND CLIENTS, AND REVIEWS OF APPROPRIATE MATERIALS. THE EVALUATION SHOWED THAT THERE WAS A LACK OF CLARITY AND AGREEMENT ABOUT THE LINES OF RESPONSIBILITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY, THAT POLICIES OF THE SCHOOL HOUSE WERE IN NEED OF CLARIFICATION, THAT PROGRAM GOALS HAVE NOT BEEN CLEARLY ARTICULATED, THAT STAFF IS IN NEED OF TRAINING, AND THAT THE SCHOOL HOUSE WAS PROVIDING A NUMBER OF HELPFUL SERVICES FOR FREMONT YOUTHS AND ADULTS. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT OF THE PROGRAM ARE PROVIDED....DMC
