THIS REPORT TAKES A LOOK AT THE ADJUSTMENT OF EX-OFFENDERS IN THE SOVIET UNION.
Abstract
CONDITIONAL RELEASE FROM IMPRISONMENT WITH OBLIGATORY LABOR WAS INTRODUCED IN THE U.S.S.R. IN 1970. THIS ARTICLE ANALYZES SOME OF THE OBJECTIVE AND SUBJECTIVE FACTORS THAT HAVE DETERMINED THE APPLICATION OF CONDITIONAL RELEASE AND SOME PROBLEMS RELATED TO IT. THE ANALYSIS, CONDUCTED BY THE ALL-UNION INSTITUTE FOR THE STUDY OF THE CAUSES OF CRIME AND MEASURES FOR ITS PREVENTION, EXAMINES SUCH OBJECTIVE FACTORS AS THE TYPES OF OFFENSES INVOLVED AND LENGTH OF SENTENCE AS WELL AS SUCH SUBJECTIVE FACTORS AS AGE, CRIMINAL HISTORIES, AND BEHAVIOR OF THE OFFENDER. ALSO STUDIED ARE PUBLIC OPINION AND ATTITUDES TOWARD THE MEASURE AND THE OPINIONS OF THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN SUBJECTS IN THE PROGRAM. THE REPORT CONCLUDES THAT THE PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS OF OFFENDERS ARE IMPORTANT IN DETERMINING WHEN THE MEASURE SHOULD BE APPLIED. --IN ITALIAN SUMMARIES IN FRENCH, SPANISH, ENGLISH, AND GERMAN....BDS
