THIS POLICE JUVENILE AND DELINQUENCY CONTROL UNIT, HAVING JURISDICTION ONLY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF PARIS, WAS ORGANIZED AT THE BEGINNING OF 1976.
Abstract
DIRECTED BY A COMPTROLLER-GENERAL, THE UNIT IS A PART OF THE CRIMINAL POLICE AND CONSISTS OF THREE SEPARATE SECTIONS, EACH HEADED BY A POLICE COMMISSIONER OR POLICE INSPECTOR. MALE AND FEMALE OFFICERS ARE ASSIGNED TO THE GENERAL INVESTIGATION, CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION, AND DELINQUENCY PREVENTION SECTIONS. PREVENTION SQUADS FOCUS ON THE DETECTION, INVESTIGATION, AND DISPOSITION OF CASES OF PRE-DELINQUENCY. EACH TEAM OF TWO OR THREE OFFICERS WORKS WITH ALL PROBLEM AND PRE-DELINQUENT YOUTH IN THEIR WARD AND DEALS WITH TRUANCY, PERSONS IN NEED OF SUPERVISION, PETTY THEFT, SHOPLIFTING, DRUG, AND SCHOOL VIOLENCE CASES. THE MAJORITY OF THE YOUTH HANDLED ARE BETWEEN TEN AND SIXTEEN YEARS OF AGE AND EMPHASIS IS ON CHANNELING JUVENILES TO COMMUNITY SERVICE, COUNSELING, OR TREATMENT FACILITIES. --IN FRENCH...ELW
