THE PUBLIC SAFETY POLICE OFFICER IS A NATURAL CHOICE FOR JUVENILE DELINQUENCY PREVENTION ACTIVITIES SINCE THEY ARE IN CONSTANT CONTACT WITH BOTH PUBLIC AND PRIVATE AGENCIES PARTICULARLY THOSE DEALING WITH JUVENILES.
Abstract
DELINQUENCY PREVENTION ACTIVITIES PROCEED ALONG THREE DIFFERENT AVENUES - PREVENTION, PROTECTION, AND DETERRENCE. SEASONAL POLICE YOUTH UNITS HAVE BEEN SPECIALLY TRAINED SINCE 1960 TO COPE WITH THE HUGE MIGRATION OF YOUTH TO RESORT AREAS DURING THE MONTHS OF JULY AND AUGUST. YOUTH CENTERS ARE ALSO SET UP TO PROVIDE VACATIONING TEENAGERS WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO PURSUE VARIOUS SPORTS AND LEISURE ACTIVITIES. BOTH REGULAR POLICE OFFICERS AND THOSE ASSIGNED TO PREVENTION ACTIVITIES RECEIVE SPECIAL TRAINING IN JUVENILE PROCEDURES AND DELINQUENCY PREVENTION. COMMUNITY RELATIONS AND PUBLIC INFORMATION ACTIVITIES INCLUDE VISITATION PROGRAMS, PUBLIC DISPLAYS AND EXHIBITS OF DELINQUENCY PREVENTION MATERIALS, POLICE STATION OPEN HOUSES, AND ROUND TABLE DISCUSSIONS ON A VARIETY OF TOPICS. ALL DELINQUENCY PREVENTION EFFORTS ARE COORDINATED AT BOTH THE NATIONAL AND PROVINCIAL LEVEL. --IN FRENCH...ELW
