THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROJECT WAS TO CREATE A PILOT SEMI-AUTOMATED LATENT FINGERPRINT PROCESSING SYSTEM THAT WOULD ALLOW THE INTRODUCTION OF A MINUTIAE-ORIENTED SEARCH AND CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM.
Abstract
THE PROGRAM WAS A COOPERATIVE VENTURE AMONG MUNICIPAL POLICE AGENCIES, NEW YORK'S DIVISION OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE SERVICES, AND THE EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER FOR THE PURPOSE OF RELATING TO REAL PROBLEMS AND SUBSEQUENT EVALUATION OF RESULTS IN THIS CONTEXT. THE REPORT CONCLUDED THAT IT IS TECHNICALLY FEASIBLE FOR SUCH A PROJECT TO BE PUT INTO USE, AND THAT A CLOSED-CIRCUIT TV APPROACH OF DISPLAYING THE FINGERPRINT TO THE HUMAN OPERATOR PROVED SUPERIOR. THE REPORT ALSO FOUND COMPATIBILITY BETWEEN THE PROJECT AND THE FBI'S FINDER SYSTEM....BDS
