Abstract
THE FIRST APPENDIX CONTAINS COPIES OF THE SIX FORMAL SURVEY INSTRUMENTS DEVELOPED FOR USE IN THE EVALUATION EFFORT. QUESTIONNAIRES GIVEN TO POLICE SERVICE AIDES (PSA), POLICE OFFICERS (PO), NONUNIFORMED OFFICERS, COMMUNITY SERVICE OFFICERS (CSO), PSA/PO CLIENTS, AND CSO/PO CLIENTS ARE PRESENTED. A SUMMARY OF THE RESULTS OF THE PSA AND CSO SURVEYS IS GIVEN IN THE SECOND APPENDIX. THESE ARE THE RAW DATA WHICH ARE EXPLAINED IN THE MAIN BODY OF THE REPORT. RESPONSES ARE CATEGORIZED INTO SUCH AREAS AS PERSONAL BACKGROUND, JOB SATISFACTION, JOB ASPIRATIONS, PERCEIVED ATTITUDES OF WORCESTER CITIZENS, AND RELATIONS WITH POLICE OFFICERS. A SIMILAR SUMMARY OF THE RESULT OF THE PATROL AND INVESTIGATIVE OFFICER SURVEYS IS ALSO PRESENTED. THE RESULTS OF SURVEYS OF THOSE WORCHESTER POLICE DEPARTMENT CLIENTS WHO WERE INVOLVED IN PSA-TYPE INCIDENTS (I.E., BOTH PSA CLIENTS AND PO CLIENTS WHO WERE INVOLVED IN PSA-TYPE INCIDENTS) ARE SUMMARIZED NEXT. THE RESPONSES DEAL WITH CLIENT AND RESPONSE PROFILES, RESPONSE TIME, AND CLIENT SATISFACTION. THE RESPONSES OF CRIME PREVENTION UNIT (CPU) CLIENTS ARE PRESENTED IN THE FIFTH APPENDIX; ONLY PROPERTY IDENTIFICATION, PREMISES SURVEY, AND CPU PRESENTATION CLIENTS WERE INTERVIEWED. ALL SURVEY RESULTS ARE PRESENTED IN TABULAR FORM. FINALLY, A SECTION OF DETAILED CRIME STATISTICS ARE PROVIDED WHICH SUPPORT DISCUSSIONS IN THE MAIN REPORT. THEY ARE COMPILED IN THE FOLLOWING CATEGORIES: TOTAL PART I AND PART II CRIMES BY AREA, ROBBERY AND BURGLARY BY AREA, ROBBERY BY SECTOR, AND ROBBERY BY PATROL ROUTE.
