COOPERATIVE AGREEMENTS WITH LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT, SECURITY ASSIGNMENTS AMONG SCHOOL STAFF, CONTRACTING FOR SECURITY SERVICES, AND THE HELP OF STUDENTS AND PARENTS ARE THE SECURITY ALTERNATIVES TREATED.
Abstract
SCHOOL SECURITY IS VIEWED AS AN EFFORT TO CONSERVE RESOURCES, FUNDS, EQUIPMENT, PERSONNEL, AND THE SCHOOL'S INSURABILITY. MANY URBAN AND SUBURBAN SCHOOL DISTRICTS HAVE DIRECT LINES TO THE POLICE , AND HAVE SCHEDULED POLICE PATROLS OF SCHOOL EXTERIORS. IN SOME SCHOOLS TEACHERS ACCEPT SECURITY DUTY AS AN EXTENSION OF THEIR DISCIPLINARY TASKS; OTHERS CONTRACT FOR SECURITY SERVICES FROM AN INDEPENDENT COMPANY. IT IS OBSERVED THAT THE QUALITY OF THESE SERVICES GREATLY VARIES. MANY SCHOOL DISTRICTS HAVE FOUND THAT AN APPEAL TO STUDENT RESPONSIBILITY AND LEADERSHIP, ALONG WITH THAT OF THEIR PARENTS HAS CREATED A CLIMATE OF ATTITUDE THAT DISCOURAGES VANDALISM....RCB
