AN INDUSTRIAL SECURITY MANAGEMENT CONSULTANT OFFERS GUIDELINES TO LIBRARY PERSONNEL FOR PLANNING AND OBTAINING A SECURITY SYSTEM FOR LIBRARY FACILITIES.
Abstract
BASICALLY, THE AUTHOR RECOMMENDS THAT LIBRARIANS CONDUCT A COMPLETE SECURITY SURVEY OF THEIR FACILITIES, OBTAIN THE ADVICE OF ALARM SYSTEM USERS BEFORE CONTACTING BURGLAR ALARM COMPANIES, AND CONSIDER USING THEIR OWN EMPLOYEES FOR SECURITY SURVEILLANCE RATHER THAN SECURITY GUARDS. A CHECKLIST FOR LIBRARY SECURITY IS ALSO PROVIDED. INCLUDED IN THE CHECKLIST ARE QUESTIONS ON THE USE AND SECURITY OF DOORS, BARRIERS, LIGHTING, WINDOWS, KEYS, ALARMS, SECURITY EMPLOYEES, FIRE PREVENTION METHODS, AND CLOSED AND OPEN LIBRARY STACKS....DMC
