Abstract
IN SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO'S UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT EACH SCHOOL STARTS THE ACADEMIC YEAR WITH A KITTY EQUAL IN DOLLARS TO ITS AVERAGE DAILY ATTENDANCE. THE DOLLAR COST OF EACH SCHOOL'S VANDALISM IS DEDUCTED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. WHATEVER IS LEFT AT THE END OF THE YEAR IS SPENT BY STUDENT COMMITTEES. 1972-73 COSTS OF VANDALISM WAS $7,000, A $33,000 REDUCTION FROM THE YEAR BEFORE THE PROGRAM BEGAN. ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN AS A PREVENTION FOR VANDALISM IN SCHOOLS IS ALSO DISCUSSED, ALONG WITH THE USE OF CAMERAS AND CLOSED-CIRCUIT TV.
