PART OF A SERIES DESIGNED TO COVER THE SPECTRUM OF PROBLEMS PERTAINING TO THE LAWS AFFECTING CHILDREN, THIS VOLUME CONTAINS STANDARDS AND COMMENTARY ON THE RIGHT OF APPEAL AND APPELLATE PROCEUDRES IN JUVENILE PROCEEDINGS.
Abstract
THIS SERIES WAS PREPARED UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A JOINT COMMISSION ON JUVENILE JUSTICE STANDARDS APPOINTED BY THE INSTITUTE OF JUDICIAL ADMINISTRATION AND THE AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION. THE STANDARDS ARE INTENDED TO SERVE AS GUIDELINES FOR ACTION BY LEGISLATORS, JUDGES, ADMINISTRATORS, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE AGENCIES, LOCAL CIVIC GROUPS, AND OTHER CONCERNED WITH THE TREATMENT OF YOUTHS. THE STANDARDS PRESENTED IN THIS VOLUME PROVIDE FOR AN APPEAL OF RIGHT FOR JUVENILES WHEREIN THE COURT MAY REVIEW CONCLUSIONS OF LAW AND FACT FROM BOTH THE ADJUDICATORY AND DISPOSITIONAL PHASES OF JUVENILE PROCEEDINGS. INCLUDED IN THIS VOLUME ARE STANDARDS ON THE NATURE OF THE APPELLATE STRUCTURE, REVIEWABILITY, THE RIGHT TO COUNSEL AND RECORDS, APPELLATE POCEDURES, STAYS OF ORDER AND RELEASE PENDING APPEAL, AND COLLATERAL AND SUPPLEMENTARY PROCEEDINGS. FOR THE ENTIRE SERIES, SEE NCJ-42751 TO 42754, AND NCJ-42780 TO 42790. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)...DMC
