THIS REPORT PRESENTS THE MAJOR FINDINGS OF THE COOPERATIVE DEMONSTRATION PROJECT, A THREE YEAR STUDY OF PROBATION IN CALIFORNIA.
Abstract
THE PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE STUDY WAS TO COMPARE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF CONTINGENCY CONTRACTING WITH TRADITIONAL PROBATION PROCEDURES. ALTHOUGH FOLLOW-UP DATA ARE NOT COMPLETE, THE RESULTS ARE UNCOVERING. THEY SUGGEST THAT CONTINGENCY CONTRACTING CAN BE EFFECTIVE IN REDUCING PROBLEM BEHAVIORS AND RECIDIVISM, ESPECIALLY WHEN A GOOD RELATIONSHIP EXISTED BETWEEN CASEWORKER AND CLIENT.
