DESCRIPTION OF A STUDY CONDUCTED AT THE WISCONSIN CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION THAT ILLUSTRATES THE EFFICIENCY AND ADAPTABILITY OF A SELF-CONTROL PROGRAM FOR WEIGHT REDUCTION WHEN USED IN A CLINICALLY CHALLENGING SETTING.
Abstract
SELF-CONTROL TECHNIQUES WERE TAUGHT TO AN OBSESE TWENTY-SEVEN YEAR-OLD BLACK MALE TO HELP MODIFY OVEREATING. SELF-REINFORCEMENT WAS UTILIZED IN ADDITION TO SYSTEMATIC ISOLATION OF CHAINED EATING BEHAVIOR FROM ASSOCIATED STIMULUS SITUATIONS. A PHYSICAL EXERCISE PROGRAM WAS EMPLOYED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE SELF-CONTROL TECHNIQUES. FORTY POUNDS WERE LOST IN EIGHT MONTHS AND, ON A SEVEN-MONTH FOLLOW-UP STUDY, PROGRAM MAINTENANCE WAS ATTAINED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)...KAP
