A SET OF STANDARDS AND GOALS FOR THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM DEVELOPED BY THE NATIONAL ADVISORY COMMISSION ON CRIMINAL JUSTICE STANDARDS AND GOALS (NAC) IS PRESENTED.
Abstract
THE CONTEXT IN WHICH THE STANDARDS ARE PRESENTED INCLUDES A DESCRIPTION OF THE MAJOR CHANGES IN THE LEGAL AND PHILOSOPHICAL BASIS OF JUVENILE JUSTICE, RECOMMENDATIONS OF OTHER NATIONAL AGENCIES DEVELOPING JUVENILE JUSTICE STANDARDS, A DESCRIPTION OF THE PENNSYLVANIA JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM, AND A COMPARISON BETWEEN STANDARDS AND THE EFFORTS TO IMPROVE PENNSYLVANIA'S JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM. NAC DID NOT INCLUDE THE DEVELOPMENT OF A COMPREHENSIVE SET OF STANDARDS TO DEAL WITH JUVENILE CRIME AND JUVENILE JUSTICE PROCESSES. A SUMMARY OF 1975 LEGISLATIVE ACTIVITY RELATING TO PENNSYLVANIA'S JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM, THE NATIONAL COMMISSION STANDARDS PERTAINING TO THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM, AND GUIDELINES FOR IMPLEMENTING JUVENILE JUSTICE STANDARDS ARE APPENDED.
