GUIDELINES ARE PRESENTED TO ASSIST INSTRUCTORS IN HELPING STUDENTS RELATE TEXTUAL MATERIALS ON POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS TO ACTUAL PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED IN POLICE WORK.
Abstract
THE INSTRUCTOR'S GUIDE IS KEYED TO STUDENT INVOLVEMENT EXERCISES, WHICH ARE HYPOTHETICAL SITUATIONS AND OBSERVATION EXPERIENCES DESIGNED TO ENCOURAGE THE STUDENTS TO APPLY WHAT IS LEARNED IN THE CLASSROOM. SOLUTIONS ARE SUGGESTED FOR EACH PROBLEM SITUATION, BUT IT IS STRESSED THAT THERE ARE NO ABSOLUTE SOLUTIONS. THE GUIDE FOLLOWS THE SAME FORMAT AS THE COMPANION TEXT, COVERING POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS IN GENERAL, OBSTACLES TO POSITIVE POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS, ATTITUDES OF THE POLICE AND THE PUBLIC, APPROACHES TO IMPROVING POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS, AND TRAINING IN POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS. TWO MULTIPLE CHOICE TESTS ARE INCLUDED, ONE A DIAGNOSTIC TOOL FOR USE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE COURSE AND THE OTHER AN EVALUATIVE TOOL FOR USE IN MEASURING STUDENT PROGRESS. FOR COMPANION TEXTBOOK, SEE NCJ-43503.
