A LAW ENACTED TO DEAL WITH ACTS OF VIOLENCE, THREATS, AND EXTORTION AGAINST FOREIGN OFFICIALS, OFFICIAL GUESTS, OR INTERNATIONALLY PROTECTED PERSONS IS PRESENTED.
Abstract
P.L. 94-467 PROVIDES FOR MANDATORY LIFE IMPRISONMENT OF ANYONE FOUND GUILTY OF MURDER IN THE FIRST DEGREE OF A FOREIGN OFFICIAL, OFFICIAL GUEST, OR INTERNATIONALLY PROTECTED PERSON. THE LAW STATES THAT, IF THE VICTIM OF A MURDER OR ATTEMPTED MURDER IS AN INTERNATIONALLY PROTECTED PERSON, THE UNITED STATES MAY EXERCISE JURISDICTION OVER THE OFFENSE, IF THE ALLEGED OFFENDER IS PRESENT IN THE UNITED STATES, REGARDLESS OF WHERE THE OFFENSE WAS COMMITTED OR OF THE NATIONALITY OF THE VICTIM OR THE ALLEGED OFFENDER. THE ACT ALSO PROVIDES FOR THE FINING AND/OR IMPRISONMENT OF ANYONE WHO ASSAULTS, HARASSES, OR IN SOME OTHER SPECIFIED MANNER OFFERS VIOLENCE TO A FOREIGN OFFICIAL, OFFICIAL GUEST, OR INTERNATIONALLY PROTECTED PERSON. THREATS AND EXTORTION AGAINST THESE PERSONS ARE ALSO COVERED.
