Abstract
CONFERENCES CONSISTED OF LECTURES, PANEL PRESENTATIONS, EXTENSIVE GROUP DISCUSSIONS, AND THE DISSEMINATION OF SUPPLEMENTARY WRITTEN MATERIALS. WORKSHOPS WERE SCHEDULED FOR THE DIRECTORS OF THE STATE-LEVEL POLICE AGENCIES' PLANNING AND RESEARCH UNITS AT EACH ONE OF THE REGIONAL CONFERENCES. PROGRAM CONTENT FOR THE WORKSHOPS WAS DEVELOPED BY THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE DURING THE PRIOR REGIONAL PLANNING MEETINGS. AS ESTABLISHED, THE WORKSHOPS WERE INTERDISCIPLINARY IN NATURE AND EMPLOYED A VARIETY OF TRAINING AND PROBLEMSOLVING TECHNIQUES. ALL PARTICIPANTS ASSIGNED TO THE WORKSHOPS WERE EXPERIENCED COMMAND-LEVEL OFFICERS, WELL-EQUIPPED TO DEAL WITH THE PROBLEMS CONFRONTING STATE POLICE ORGANIZATIONS. SCIENTIFIC PROBLEMSOLVING TECHNIQUES WERE EMPLOYED TO DEVELOP SOLUTIONS FOR CONTEMPORARY PROBLEMS. AT THE CONCLUSION OF EACH CONFERENCE, A PRESENTATION WAS PROVIDED TO THE ADMINISTRATORS SUMMARIZING THE RESULTS OF THE WORKSHOP AND EMPHASIZING SPECIFIC RECOMMENDATIONS. IN ADDITION TO THE PRESENTATIONS AND THE INTERCHANGE OF IDEAS AMONG ATTENDEES, BOTH THE CHIEF EXECUTIVES AND THEIR STAFF OFFICERS WERE PROVIDED EXPERIENCE IN THE CONDUCT OF HIGH-LEVEL MANAGERIAL TRAINING CONFERENCES. THE PARTICIPANTS VIEWED THE CONFERENCES AS A NECESSARY AND POSITIVE PROGRAM, CONTRIBUTING TO MANY IMPROVEMENTS IN THE OPERATIONS OF THEIR DEPARTMENTS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED).
