THIS TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE REPORT REVIEWS THE RECORDS OPERATIONS OF THE DOUGLAS COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER, WHICH SERVES THE LAWRENCE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE DOUGLAS COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE.
Abstract
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS WERE BASED ON EXAMINATION OF DOCUMENTS AND FILES, OBSERVATION OF PROCEDURES, AND INTERVIEWS. IN GENERAL, THE DOUGLAS COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER WAS FOUND TO BE ORGANIZED AND MANAGED IN THE BEST INTERESTS OF BOTH AGENCIES. SOME COORDINATION PROBLEMS EXIST, HOWEVER, IN THE AREAS OF CRIMINAL RECORDS AND JAILS. CHANGES IN RECORDS PROCESSING PROCEDURES, SOME MODIFICATIONS OF FORMS AND IMPROVED FILING FACILITIES ARE SUGGESTED TO ELIMINATE THE PROBLEMS AS WELL AS TO GENERALLY IMPROVE THE AVAILABILITY OF RECORDS AND MANAGEMENT INFORMATION. THE RECOMMENDED MODIFICATIONS TO REPORT FORMS ARE APPENDED.
