Abstract
THE RIGHTS GUARANTEED UNDER THE 1974 FAMILY EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS AND PRIVACY ACT ARE OUTLINED. THE ACT DEALS WITH STUDENTS' AND PARENTS' RIGHTS REGARDING SCHOOL RECORDS. A COPY OF THE DECLARATION OF YOUTHS' RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES, FORMULATED BY 200 YOUTH DELEGATES TO A STATEWIDE MEETING IN CONNECTICUT, IS PRESENTED. A COMPUTER PROGRAM OUTLINE AND YOUTH SERVICE BUREAU INTAKE AND CASE RECORD FORM OF USE IN IDENTIFYING AND CATEGORIZING PROBLEMS OF YOUTH ARE INCLUDED. DIRECTORIES ARE PRESENTED OF LAW-RELATED EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES; SOURCES OF LAW-RELATED CURRICULUM MATERIALS; STATE PLANNING AGENCIES; OFFICES AND PROJECTS OF THE NATIONAL COALITION OF ALTERNATIVE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS; SCHOOLS WITH ACTION LEARNING PROGRAMS; AND REGIONAL OFFICES OF THE ASSOCIATION FOR CHILDREN WITH LEARNING DISABILITIES. ALSO INCLUDED ARE LISTS OF PUBLICATIONS ON LAW-RELATED CURRICULUM MATERIALS, ACTION LEARNING, AND LEARNING DISABILITIES. A SUMMARY OF YOUTH'S LEGAL RIGHTS IN DEALING WITH POLICE IS ACCOMPANIED BY A COPY OF A LEGAL RIGHTS CARD FOR YOUTH USED IN HAWAII. INFORMATION ON THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT AND ON THE KINDS OF INFORMATION NOT COVERED BY THE ACT IS PRESENTED. GOVERNMENT AND OTHER PUBLICATION ON YOUTH-RELATED TOPICS ARE CITED.
