INVESTIGATION PROCEDURES ARE DETAILED STEP-BY-STEP, EMPHASIZING A UNIFIED APPROACH TO CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION USING THE CRIME LAB, PHOTO LAB, IDENTIFICATION BUREAU, AND EVIDENCE TECHNICIAN PERSONNEL.
Abstract
THIS BASIC APPROACH DISCUSSES WHAT SHOULD OCCUR AT A CRIME SCENE AND HOW ALL TYPES OF PROBLEMS DURING THE INVESTIGATION ARE HANDLED. PERSONNEL INVOLVED IN CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION, SUPPORT SERVICES, AND COMMON CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION (CSI) EQUIPMENT ARE INTRODUCED. SPECIAL EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON DISCUSSING THE AVERAGE CRIME SCENE THAT A CSI OFFICER INVESTIGATES - USUALLY NOT A HOMICIDE. THE ARRIVAL AT THE SCENE, THE ACTUAL INVESTIGATION, RECORDING THE SCENE, AND SPECIFIC COLLECTION TECHNIQUES ARE DESCRIBED. EACH CHAPTER PROVIDES DISCUSSION QUESTIONS; THE TEXT CONTAINS A GLOSSARY OF SCIENTIFIC AND LEGAL TERMINOLOGY AND AN INDEX. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED).
