THE INGREDIENTS OF EFFECTIVE REHABILITATION PROGRAMS ARE OUTLINED AND CONTRASTED TO INEFFECTIVE PROGRAMS. REASONS WHY SOME PROGRAMS FAIL AND OTHERS SUCCEED ARE DISCUSSED.
Abstract
THE BOOK DRAWS FROM A REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE OF OVER 825 BOOKS AND ARTICLES ON THE TREATMENT OF JUVENILE DELINQUENTS. ONLY ABOUT 170 OF THE STUDIES MET THE PRIMARY CRITERIA OF HAVING A MATCHED OR RANDOMLY ASSIGNED CONTROL GROUP. THESE STUDIES WERE INTENSELY INVESTIGATED, AND FROM THEM WERE FORMULATED PRINCIPLES FOR THE REHABILITATION OF JUVENILE DELINQUENTS. RECOMMENDATIONS ARE MADE IN EVERY AREA OF DELINQUENCY PROGRAMMING FOR THE UPGRADING OF EXISTING TREATMENT APPROACHES. IN ADDITION TO SPECIFYING NEEDED IMPROVEMENTS IN PRESENT METHODS, AN IDEAL PROGRAM IS DEVELOPED AND OFFERED FOR CONSIDERATION. STATISTICAL DATA ARE PRESENTED IN TABULAR AND GRAPHIC FORM.
