REASONS FOR ENTRY INTO PROSTITUTION, SOCIOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF THIS OCCUPATION, A HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE FOR THE CONTINUED ENFORCEMENT OF ANTIPROSTITUTION LAWS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SOLUTIONS OF THE PROBLEM ARE COVERED.
Abstract
THIS ARTICLE ESSENTIALLY REVIEWS THE LITERATURE ON THE SUBJECT OF PROSTITUTION AS OF 1977. DEFINITIONS OF PROSTITUTION IN THE LEGAL SENSE ARE PRESENTED. SOCIOLOGICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILES OF PROSTITUTES ARE ALSO INCLUDED. DECRIMINALIZATION OF THE SEXUAL ACT INVOLVED, WHILE RETAINING CRIMINAL PENALTIES FOR AREAS SUCH AS PANDERING AND SOLICITATION IS RECOMMENDED AS A SOLUTION. THE BENEFITS OF DECRIMINALIZATION ARE DISCUSSED.
