THIS FILM DRAMATIZES A SELECTED GROUP OF WORK-RELATED PROBLEMS IN A POLICE DEPARTMENT INVOLVING SUSPECTED ALCOHOLICS, SHOWING THE CORRECT STEPS TO BE TAKEN BY THE SUPERVISOR WHO EVALUATES JOB PERFORMANCE.
Abstract
GREATER RISKS AND GRAVER CONSEQUENCES ARE INVOLVED WHEN AN ALCOHOLIC POLICE OFFICER IS ON DUTY; IT MAY CAUSE THE UNNECESSARY LOSS OF A HUMAN LIFE. THE FILM DISCLOSES THAT THE ALCOHOLIC'S REASONS GIVEN FOR POOR JOB PERFORMANCE ARE FREQUENTLY LIES TOLD TO THE SUPERVISOR, AND THAT THE SUPERVISOR IS RARELY, IF EVER, QUALIFIED BY TRAINING IN ALCOHOLISM TO COPE WITH OR DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM EMPLOYEE AS AN ALCOHOLIC. THE SUPERVISOR IS ENCOURAGED TO REFER THE SUSPECTED ALCOHOLIC TO THE APPROPRIATE DEPARTMENTAL OR OUTSIDE AGENCY FOR PROFESSIONAL COUNSELING WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF EXISTING DEPARTMENTAL AND/OR LABOR MANAGEMENT POLICIES REGARDING PROBLEM WORKERS.
