THE CONTENT AND PRESENTATIONS OF TWO TRAINING SESSIONS FOR FULL-TIME TRIAL JUDGES IN IOWA ARE EVALUATED BY PARTICIPANTS.
Abstract
THE SESSIONS WERE SPONSORED BY THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF JUDICIAL EDUCATION IN JUNE AND DECEMBER OF 1976. PARTICIPANTS COMPLETED EVALUATION QUESTIONNAIRES IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE SESSION. THE EVALUATION REPORT CONSISTS OF A QUESTION-BY-QUESTION SUMMARY OF THEIR RESPONSES. THE JUDGES GENERALLY WERE PLEASED WITH THE CONTENT OF THE PROGRAMS. SOME WERE CRITICAL OF THE LACK OF FAMILIARITY WITH IOWA STATUTES AND DECISIONS ON THE PART OF DISCUSSION GROUP LEADERS FROM OUTSIDE THE STATE. THE MAJORITY OF PARTICIPANTS FELT THAT VIDEOTAPES WERE MORE EFFECTIVE THAN LECTURES OR PANEL DISCUSSIONS IN PRESENTING TRAINING MATERIAL ON EVIDENCE. NO TABULAR DATA, COPIES OF EVALUATION INSTRUMENTS, OR DESCRIPTIONS OF CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS ARE INCLUDED. (LKM)
