THE METHODS, FINDINGS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS OF AN EVALUATION OF LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS IN MINNESOTA ARE SUMMARIZED.
Abstract
EVALUATION FINDINGS RELATE TO THE TRAINING DELIVERY SYSTEM, BASIC TRAINING CURRICULUMS, AND THE CHARACTERISTICS OF TRAINEES. TRAINING REQUIREMENTS, REIMBURSEMENT TO LOCAL COMMUNITIES FOR THE COSTS OF TRAINING LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL, MINIMIUM BASIC TRAINING CURRICULUM, LOCATION OF TRAINING FACILITIES, AND OTHER MATTERS. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR IMPROVING LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING ARE DIRECTED TO THE STATE LEGISLATURE AND TO THE BOARD OF PEACE OFFICER STANDARDS AND TRAINING. A BIBLIOGRAPHY OF POLICE TRAINING EVALUATION PROJECT REPORTS IS APPENDED. CHARTS RELATIVE TO TRAINING NEEDS, RECRUITMENT PATTERNS, STANDARDS, AND PROBATIONARY PERIODS ARE INCLUDED.
