THE CALIFORNIA YOUTH AUTHORITY'S FISCAL 1976-1977 ACTIVITIES FUNDED BY TITLE 1 OF THE ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION ACT (ESEA) ARE DESCRIBED AND EVALUATED.
Abstract
THE REPORT IS PREPARED ON AN ANNUAL BASIS AND IS DERIVED FROM PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS AND EVALUATIVE INFORMATION SUBMITTED BY INDIVIDUAL SCHOOLS WITHIN THE YOUTH AUTHORITY AND FROM SPECIAL STUDIES CONDUCTED BY THE ESEA RESEARCH AND EVALUATION STAFF. CALIFORNIA'S COMPENSATORY EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR EDUCATIONALLY DISADVANTAGED DELINQUENT YOUTH ENCOMPASSES LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT, READING, MATHEMATICS, MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION, CAREER EDUCATION, AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT COMPONENTS. DURING THE 1976-1977 FISCAL YEAR, TITLE 1 PROGRAMS IN YOUTH AUTHORITY SCHOOLS RECEIVED $1,448,082 IN FUNDING AND SERVED 1,390 PARTICIPANTS. THE HISTORY OF THE COMPENSATORY EDUCATION PROGRAM, STUDENT AND STAFF PROFILES, THE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM, DETAILS OF PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION AND MANAGEMENT, AND AN EVALUATION OF PROGRAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS RELATIVE TO PROGRAM OBJECTIVES ARE REPORTED. A LONG-TERM PERSPECTIVE ON ESEA ACCOMPLISHMENTS OVER THE PROGRAM'S 10-YEAR HISTORY IN CALIFORNIA IS INCLUDED. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR IMPROVING THE PROGRAM ARE OFFERED. SUPPORTING DATA AND DOCUMENTATION, COPIES OF DATA-GATHERING INSTRUMENTS, AND A LIST OF REFERENCES ARE PROVIDED. THE EVALUATION PLAN, A MULTI-ETHNIC AWARENESS QUESTIONNAIRE, A COPY OF PERTINENT REGULATIONS IN THE FEDERAL REGISTER, AND THE QUESTIONNAIRE USED IN THE CLASSROOM ACCESSMENT INVENTORY ARE APPENDED.
