Abstract
EACH DIVISION REPORT DESCRIBES THE ORGANIZATION OF RESEARCH AND DOCUMENTS MAJOR RESEARCH FINDINGS AND DEVELOPMENTS. RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE YEAR INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: IMPROVEMENTS IN THE DETERMINATION OF MALE OR FEMALE ORIGIN OF BLOOD STAINS BY Y-CHROMOSOME EXAMINATION; USE OF FAMILY STUDIES TO ESTABLISH A GENETIC BASIS OF PHOSPHOGLUCOMUTASE VARIANTS IN BLOOD; PROGRESS IN THE USE OF THE ENZYME SUBTILISIN TO INCREASE RECOVERY OF DRUGS FROM TISSUE DIGESTS; DEVELOPMENTS IN THE ANALYSIS OF BLOOD AND URINE FOR CANNABINOIDS, IN THE EXTRACTION OF DYES FROM FIBERS, AND IN OTHER AREAS OF FIBER EXAMINATION; A NEW METHOD OF SAMPLING FOR RAPID ANALYSIS OF HYDROCARBON VAPORS IN ARSON INVESTIGATIONS; REFINEMENT OF TRACE ANALYSIS OF GLASS PARTICLES. THE AGENCY'S INFORMATION AND QUALITY ASSURANCE PROGRAMS WERE EXPANDED DURING THE YEAR, AS WERE ITS INTERNATIONAL CONNECTIONS.
