THIS DATA RESOURCE HANDBOOK LISTS BOTH SERVICES AND INFORMATION AVAILABLE IN THE STATE OF VIRGINIA, WITH CROSS-REFERENCES. DATA GAPS AND QUALITY OF INFORMATION AVAILABLE ON CHILDREN AND YOUTH ARE DISCUSSED.
Abstract
THE SURVEY, CONDUCTED FROM JANUARY THROUGH APRIL 1977, CONTACTED ALL STATE, PRIVATE, AND SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES OPERATING UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE STATE LEGISLATURE (E.G., VIRGINIA COMMISSION FOR THE VISUALLY HANDICAPPED, GOVERNOR'S MANPOWER SERVICES COUNCIL). THE FIRST SECTION LISTS ALL CHILDREN AND YOUTH SERVICES WITH THE DEPARTMENTS PROVIDING EACH SERVICE. A SECOND LISTS 17 AGENCIES AND THE SERVICES PROVIDED BY EACH. A SERIES OF CHARTS OUTLINES THE TYPES OF DATA AVAILABLE, DEPARTMENTS FROM WHICH THEY ARE AVAILABLE, METHODS USED TO COLLECT THE DATA, AND THE FORMAT OF THE DATA. A SEPARATE SECTION DESCRIBES DATA AVAILABLE BY DEPARTMENT. GAPS IN THE DATA ARE NOTED. THE FINAL CHAPTER LISTS UNTAPPED DATA AND SERVICE SOURCES FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH, TOGETHER WITH THE ADDRESS OF THE SOURCE AND A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DATA AND SERVICES OFFERED. AN APPENDIX CONTAINS A COPY OF THE SURVEY INSTRUMENT, ADDRESSES OF THE AGENCIES CONTACTED, AND A BIBLIOGRAPHY. (GLR)
