A REPORT ON CRIME IN MAINE FROM JULY TO DECEMBER 1974 IS PRESENTED. IT IS THE FIRST REPORT MADE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MAINE UNIFORM CRIME REPORTING PROGRAM.
Abstract
THE REPORT CONSISTS OF THE FIRST EFFORT TO IDENTIFY CRIME IN MAINE. IT IS BASED ON A 6 MONTH COLLECTION OF DATA, AND CRIME IS IDENTIFIED ON A COUNTY BASIS. A LIST OF CRIME HIGHLIGHTS IN MAINE DURING THIS PERIOD IS PROVIDED, AND THE OBJECTIVES OF UNIFORM CRIME REPORTING ARE BRIEFLY DISCUSSED. THE MAINE CRIME INDEX ALONG WITH CRIME RATES IS PRESENTED. CRIME FACTORS ARE EXAMINED. OFFENSE DATA CONCERNING MURDER, RAPE, ROBBERY, ASSAULT, BURGLARY, LARCENY, AND MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT IS GIVEN. STOLEN AND RECOVERED PROPERTY VALUES ARE ESTIMATED IN THE REPORT, AND CLEARANCE AND ARREST DATA IS INCLUDED. THE REPORT CONTAINS POLICE EMPLOYEE DATA INCLUDING INFORMATION ON ASSAULTS ON OFFICERS. APPENDIXES INCLUDE INFORMATION ON THE REPORTING PROCEDURE AND VERIFICATION PROCEDURE, CALCULATING METHODS, A STATEMENT OF POLICY AND REPORTING DIVISIONS AND AUTHORITY. (DAG)
