VARIOUS METHODS OF DETECTING FORGED OR COUNTERFEIT MONEY ARE PRESENTED IN THIS FILM, WHICH IS INTENDED FOR THE INSTRUCTION OF SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS AND BANK WORKERS.
Abstract
COUNTERFEIT MONEY CAN BE DETECTED PRIMARILY BY TOUCH. THE PAPER USED TO PRINT OFFICIAL MONEY IS EXTREMELY HARD TO DUPLICATE BECAUSE OF THE RED AND BLUE FIBERS RUNNING THROUGH IT. THIS GIVES THE PAPER A PECULIAR FEEL WHICH IS NOT FOUND IN COUNTERFEIT MONEY. THE SUGGESTED METHOD FOR CATCHING A SUSPECTED COUNTERFEITER IS TO DELAY THE PASSER AND CALL POLICE OR SECRET SERVICE. IF THE PASSER CANNOT BE DETAINED, AN ACCURATE DESCRIPTION OF THE PERSON AND ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THE CAR OR OTHER ESCAPE VEHICLE SHOULD BE RECORDED. COUNTERFEITERS GENERALLY OPERATE ON A VERY SMALL SCALE, AND THEIR FAMILIES AND CLOSE FRIENDS ARE THE ONES WHO PASS THE BILLS. A RELATED CRIME IS THE FORGERY OF CHECKS. MANY THIEVES STEAL SOCIAL SECURITY CHECKS FROM MAILBOXES THE DAY THEY ARE DELIVERED, AND THEN GO TO A BANK TO CASH THEM. THESE FORGERS HAVE NO IDENTIFICATION, AND BANK TELLERS ARE URGED NOT TO CASH THE CHECKS WITHOUT PROPER IDENTIFICATION. THE GOVERNMENT RECOMMENDS THAT TELLERS TAKE A THUMBPRINT OF ANYONE CASHING A GOVERNMENT CHECK. THE TELLER SHOULD ALSO DETERMINE WHETHER A PERSON CASHING A SOCIAL SECURITY CHECK LOOKS LIKE HE IS ELIGIBLE TO COLLECT SOCIAL SECURITY. THE GROWING AMOUNT OF FORGED CHECKS AND COUNTERFEIT MONEY NECESSITATES GREATER CARE IN DEALING WITH ALL FORMS OF MONEY. (BAC)
