Abstract
'UNDER THE LAW PART II' IS A SERIES OF FOUR FILMS DIRECTED AT JUVENILE AUDIENCES PRODUCED UNDER A LEAA GRANT. THE FILMS WERE TESTED AND EVALUATED IN URBAN SCHOOLS IN FIVE DIFFERENT GEOGRAPHIC AREAS, INCLUDING BIRMINGHAM (ALA), INDIANAPOLIS (IND), CHICAGO (ILL), EMMAUS (PA), AND LOS ANGELES (CALIF). EACH CLASS CONSISTED OF 20-25 STUDENTS, AND THE PROCEDURE INVOLVED A PRETEST AND A POSTTEST. REPLIES WERE ANALYZED BY THE AGE, SEX, GRADE, AND RACE OF THE RESPONDENTS. ATTENTION WAS GIVEN TO THE CHILD'S FAMILY/WORK STATUS, TO THE CHILD'S CHURCH ATTENDANCE, THE CITY WHERE THE RESPONDENT LIVED, AND THE FILM SEEN BY THE CHILD. STATISTICS IN THIS REPORT ARE BASED ON A TOTAL SAMPLE OF OVER 1,000 STUDENTS. RESPONSES WERE COLLECTED ON EVALUATIONS OF THE FILM AS A COMMUNICATION FORM FOR SUBJECTS ON LAW AND LAW ENFORCEMENT, ATTITUDES TOWARD POLICEMEN, THE IMPORTANCE OF PLANNING LIFE TO AVOID A CRIMINAL RECORD, WHAT TO DO IF ONE IS A WITNESS TO CRIME, CAUSES OF CRIME, ATTITUDES TOWARD JUVENILE OFFENDERS AND THE JUVENILE SYSTEM, AND USE OF DRUGS, ALCOHOL, AND WEAPONS. PERCENTAGES ARE INDICATED FOR RESPONSES TO EACH TOPIC. THE APPENDIX INCLUDES A TABLE INDICATING COMPARISON RESULTS FOR IDENTICAL QUESTIONS CONTAINED IN BOTH THE PREFILM AND POSTFILM QUESTIONNAIRES. COPIES OF THE QUESTIONNAIRES USED IN THE TESTING PROJECT ARE INCLUDED, AND RESPONSE PERCENTAGES FOR EACH QUESTION ASKED ARE PROVIDED. (DAG)
