GUIDELINES FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF URBAN CENTERS FOR EDUCATION, DEMONSTRATION, AND RESEARCH IN CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT ARE PRESENTED.
Abstract
THE GUIDELINES WERE COMPILED BY A GROUP OF ABUSE-NEGLECT EXPERTS WHO MET IN MARCH 1969 TO SPECIFY CRITERIA FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF STUDY CENTERS IN LARGE METROPOLITAN AREAS. THE PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PROPOSED CENTERS LIES IN EDUCATION, TRAINING, DEMONSTRATION, AND RESEARCH, BUT THE CENTERS ALSO ARE TO PROVIDE DIRECT SERVICES TO A LIMITED NUMBER OF CLIENTS. THE SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES OF THE CENTERS ARE ENUMERATED, AS ARE THE THE SERVICES TO BE OFFERED DIRECTLY TO THE COMMUNITY AND TO FAMILIES. COMMUNITY GROUPS AND AGENCIES THAT COULD BENEFIT FROM TRAINING PROGRAMS IN CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT ARE LISTED. CRITERIA BY WHICH CENTERS CAN EVALUATE THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS ARE SUGGESTED. GUIDELINES FOR ORGANIZING AND STAFFING THE CENTERS ARE OUTLINED, AND A SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM SHOWING THE RELATIONSHIP OF THE CENTERS TO OTHER SEGMENTS OF THE COMMUNITY IS PRESENTED. POSSIBLE SOURCES OF FUNDING ARE IDENTIFIED. (LKM)
