Abstract
THE BOOK IS ESPECIALLY DESIGNED FOR FIRE OFFICERS BUT SHOULD BE VALUABLE TO OTHER EMERGENCY FORCES, SUCH AS POLICE, PUBLIC WORKS, HEALTH, AND MILITARY OFFICIALS, THAT RESPOND TO MAJOR DISASTERS. IT DISCUSSES PLANNING, ORGANIZING, COORDINATING OF DEPARTMENT AND AGENCIES, COMMUNICATING, AND TRAINING FOR DISASTER CONTROL. THE DISCUSSION COVERS SUCH DISASTERS AS FIRES, FLOODS, STORMS, EARTHQUAKES, VOLCANOES, LANDSLIDES, RIOTS, AND ENEMY ATTACK. TRANSPORTATION AND CHEMICAL DISASTERS ARE COVERED AS WELL. A SECTION IS INCLUDED ON LESSONS LEARNED FROM LARGE-SCALE OPERATIONS. APPENDIXES INCLUDE EXAMPLES OF AN ACTUAL COUNTY FIRE AND RESCUE EMERGENCY SERVICES OPERATION PLAN; A SELECTIVE, MUTUAL EMERGENCY FIRE AID PACT; THE MODIFIED MERCALLI SCALE OF EARTHQUAKE INTENSITY; AND THE ROSSI-FOREL SCALE FOR EARTHQUAKE CLASSIFICATION.
