THIS FILM, DESIGNED FOR POLICE OFFICER TRAINING, INSTRUCTS OFFICERS IN HOW TO IDENTIFY STOLEN CARS.
Abstract
SPECIFIC SUGGESTIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS ARE PROVIDED. THE FILM DEPICTS MANY OF THE TRICKS USED BY CAR THIEVES SO THAT OFFICERS CAN BE MORE OBSERVANT ON THEIR PATROLS. OFFICERS SHOULD CHECK FOR CARS ON WHICH PART OF THE LICENSE PLATE NUMBERS OR LETTERS HAS BEEN TAPED OVER OR ON WHICH THE PLATE HAS BEEN ATTACHED WITH WIRE OR NEW SCREWS WHEN THE PLATE ITSELF IS OBVIOUSLY OLD. OFFICERS SHOULD ALSO LOOK FOR DIRTY PLATES ON A CLEAN CAR, INDICATING THAT THE DRIVER MAY BE TRYING TO OBSCURE THE PLATE NUMBER. PROCEDURES FOR QUESTIONING A DRIVER ARE ALSO OUTLINED, AND THE IMPORTANCE OF THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER IS EXPLAINED. (BAC)
