THIS MONOGRAPH DISCUSSES STRATEGIES AND HOW BUSINESS AND SECURITY EXECUTIVES CAN REDUCE PERSONAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL VULNERABILITIES TO TERRORISM.
Abstract
THE STRATEGIES ARE DESIGNED TO PROVIDE AN AWARENESS AND UNDERSTANDING OF BASIC MEASURES FOR PREVENTING AND DEALING WITH SPECIFIC ACTS OF TERRORISM IN THE U.S. AND ABROAD. AREAS DISCUSSED IN THE INTRODUCTORY SECTIONS INCLUDE TERRORISM AND REASONS FOR TACTICS OF TERROR, A PROFILE OF A TERRORIST, AND A HISTORICAL OVERVIEW OF TRENDS IN THE TERRORISM MOVEMENT, WITH A SHIFT FROM GOVERNMENTAL TO BUSINESS-RELATED TARGETS. SPECIFIC, COMPREHENSIVE GUIDELINES AND ORGANIZATIONAL ACTIVITIES TO COMBAT TERRORISM ARE PRESENTED ALONG WITH PREVENTIVE AND PROTECTIVE STRATEGIES FOR PERSONAL, FAMILY, RESIDENTIAL, OFFICE, AND VEHICLE SECURITY. STRATEGIES FOR PROTECTING AGAINST KIDNAPING, BOMBING, AND AIR PIRACY ARE ALSO INCLUDED. THE MONOGRAPH IS DIRECTED TO BUSINESS, GOVERNMENT, AND LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL RESPONSIBLE FOR DEVELOPING ORGANIZATIONAL COUNTERTERRORISM PROGRAMS AND TO INDIVIDUALS INTERESTED IN PERSONAL PROTECTION. REFERENCES ARE PROVIDED. APPENDED MATERIALS INCLUDE SELECTED STANDARDS FROM THE REPORT OF THE TASK FORCE ON DISORDERS AND TERRORISM AND A SELECTED ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY OF BOOKS AND JOURNAL ARTICLES ON EXECUTIVE SECURITY, SECURITY MANAGEMENT, AND INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM PUBLISHED IN THE 1970'S.
