SIXTY-FOUR BURGLARY CASES AND 14 ROBBERY CASES ARE ANALYZED FROM ARREST TO DISPOSITION IN A STUDY OF CASE FLOW IN THE COURTS OF BANNOCK COUNTY, IDAHO.
Abstract
THE ANALYSIS, PREPARED BY THE IDAHO LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMISSION'S STATISTICAL ANALYSIS CENTER, EXAMINES THE PROGRESSION OF THE CASES THROUGH EACH STAGE OF THE LEGAL SYSTEM. SCHEMATIC DIAGRAMS DEPICT THE CASE FLOW, NOTING THE PERCENTAGES OF ARRESTEES WHOSE CASES WERE DISPOSED OF AT EACH DECISION POINT. THE ACCOMPANYING NARRATIVE DETAILS THE ARRESTEES' STATUS RELATIVE TO PRETRIAL PLACEMENT, PROSECUTION, DISPOSITION, AND SENTENCING. THIRTY-NINE OF THE 56 BURGLARY CASES PROSECUTED RESULTED IN CONVICTION. FOURTEEN CONVICTED BURGLARS WERE GRANTED PROBATION. NINE OF THE ROBBERY ARRESTEES WERE CONVICTED AND SENTENCED IN DISTRICT COURT. THE AVERAGE TIME FROM ARREST TO CONVICTION WAS 74.62 DAYS FOR BURGLARY AND 74 DAYS FOR ROBBERY. THE AVEARAGE TIME FROM ARREST TO SENTENCING WAS 137.38 DAYS FOR BURGLARY AND 155.7 DAYS FOR ROBBERY. SUPPORTING DATA ARE INCLUDED. (LKM)
