FORTY-SEVEN ADULTS ARRESTED FOR BURGLARY IN TWIN FALLS COUNTY, IDAHO, DURING 1975 ARE TRACED THROUGH THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM.
Abstract
THE CASE FLOW ANALYSIS WAS PERFORMED BY THE STATISTICAL ANALYSIS CENTER OF THE STATE'S LAW ENFORCEMENT PLANNING COMMISSION. A SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM DEPICTS THE FLOW OF BURGLARY OFFENDERS THROUGH THE TWIN FALLS COUNTY COURT SYSTEM, NOTING THE PERCENTAGE OF ARRESTEES WHOSE CASES WERE DISPOSED OF AT EACH STATE OF THE LEGAL PROCESS. A SECOND, SIMILAR DIAGRAM SHOWS PERCENTAGES BY DECISION POINT (E.G., THE PERCENTAGES OF PROSECUTED CASES RESULTING IN DISMISSAL, CONVICTION, AND ACQUITTAL). A NARRATIVE ACCOUNT COVERS THE STATUS OF THE ARRESTEES RELATIVE TO PRETRIAL RELEASE, RESULTS OF PROSECUTION, AND SENTENCING. A TIME FRAME ANALYSIS SHOWS THAT THE AVERAGE CASE MOVED FROM ARREST TO DISPOSITION IN 99.3 DAYS (53.3-DAY AVERAGE FOR MAGISTRATE COURT, 125.8-DAY AVERAGE FOR DISTRICT COURT). SUPPORTING DATA ARE INCLUDED. (LKM)
