IN MAY 1973, SWEDISH LAW WAS PASSED OUTLINING SPECIFIC MEASURES TO BE IMPLEMENTED FOR GUARDING AGAINST TERRORIST VIOLENCE IN THE COUNTRY. THE MEASURES ARE EXPLAINED TO THE SWEDISH PUBLIC.
Abstract
THE NEW LAW IS DIRECTED AT PROHIBITING PERSONS WITH HIGH RISKS FOR TERRORIST ACTION FROM OBTAINING VISAS TO ENTER SWEDEN. IT IS ALSO DIRECTED AGAINST A SMALL NUMBER OF ALIENS ALREADY IN THE COUNTRY WHO ARE ASSOCIATED WITH ORGANIZATIONS THAT SYSTEMATICALLY USE VIOLENT MEANS TO ATTAIN GOALS. THE LAW DOES NOT AFFECT SWEDISH ORGANIZATIONS OR INDEPENDENCE MOVEMENTS IN WHICH VIOLENCE IS LIMITED TO A CONFLICT REGION. IT DOES NOT ALTER SWEDEN'S POLICY ON POLITICAL REFUGEES, ALTHOUGH A POLITICAL REFUGEE IN SWEDEN, WHO IS CONNECTED WITH A TERRORIST ORGANIZATION, CAN BE SUBJECTED TO SUPERVISION WHILE IN SWEDEN. A GOVERNMENT LIST OF THE ORGANIZATIONS THAT ARE AFFECTED BY THE LAW WILL BE FORWARDED TO THE NATIONAL POLICE DEPARTMENT, AND THE POLICE DEPARTMENT WILL COLLECT INFORMATION ON NAMES ASSOCIATED WITH THE SELECTED ORGANIZATIONS. A PERSON WHOSE NAME IS AMONG THOSE COLLECTED BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT WILL BE REFUSED ENTRANCE INTO THE COUNTRY. (DAG) -- IN SWEDISH
