Abstract
THE LISTING OF SALARY FIGURES FOR COURTS OF APPELLATE AND GENERAL JURISDICTIONS, STATE COURT ADMINISTRATORS, AND COURTS OF SPECIAL OR LIMITED JURISDICTION WAS COMPILED BY THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR STATE COURTS. THE DATE OF LAST SALARY CHANGE FOR HIGHEST AND INTERMEDIATE APPELLATE OR GENERAL TRIAL COURT JUDGES FOR EACH STATE COURT SYSTEM IS LISTED. POPULATION AND INCOME FIGURES ACCOMPANYING THE DATA ON JUDICIAL SALARIES ARE FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE AND BUREAU OF THE CENSUS 'STATISTICAL ABSTRACT OF THE UNITED STATES 1977.' SALARIES REPORTED FOR THE HIGHEST APPELLATE COURT REFER TO SALARIES PAID TO ASSOCIATE JUSTICES. GENERAL TRIAL COURT SALARIES REFER TO STANDARD SALARIES PAID BY STATES FOR RANKING PURPOSES. A KEY TO ABBREVIATIONS USED IN THE TABLES OF DATA IS INCLUDED.
