Abstract
THE FIRST VOLUME OF THIS STUDY REPORTS ON AN ANALYSIS OF 219 RESCUE INCIDENTS IN DETAIL TO DEVELOP AN OVERVIEW OF EQUIPMENT NEEDED FOR VARIOUS RESCUE FUNCTIONS, TO DEVELOP SUITABLE SPECIFICATIONS AND TESTING TECHNIQUES FOR RESCUE EQUIPMENT, AND TO DEVELOP COST ANALYSIS METHODS. THESE APPENDIXES CONTAIN THE QUESTIONNAIRE USED TO COLLECT DATA, THE ON-SITE VISIT FORM, TABULAR SUMMATIONS OF THE RESULTS, AND STATISTICAL ANALYSES USED IN THE STUDY. THE TABLES INCLUDE DATA ON MILES TRAVELED TO THE RESCUE SITE, EQUIPMENT USED, TYPES OF INJURIES SUSTAINED, EQUIPMENT PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS, AND EQUIPMENT SPECIFICATIONS. SAMPLE SPECIFICATION SHEETS, LIFE CYCLE COST DATA, AND MAINTENANCE DATA ARE ALSO PRESENTED. AN EXTENSIVE BIBLIOGRAPHY IS INCLUDED. (GLR)
