Abstract
AS THE COLLECTION OF THE LAW LIBRARY DEVELOPED AND WITH THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE AUSTRALIAN INSTITUTE OF CRIMINOLOGY, IT BECAME CLEAR THAT A MORE COMPREHENSIVE RESEARCH GUIDE TO CRIMINOLOGY MATERIALS WAS NEEDED. THE DOMAIN OF CRIMINOLOGY IS NOT FIXED AND DRAWS IN AN INTERDISCIPLINARY MANNER FROM THE FIELDS OF LAW, MEDICINE, PSYCHOLOGY, PSYCHIATRY, SOCIOLOGY, SOCIAL WORK, ECONOMICS, POLITICS, STATISTICS, URBAN PLANNING, AND THE PHYSICAL SCIENCES. THE RESEARCH GUIDE HAS SEVEN MAJOR SECTIONS: (1) BIBLIOGRAPHIES; (2) INDEXES AND ABSTRACTS (CRIMINOLOGICAL AND RELATED MATERIAL); (3) PERIODICALS IN 38 COUNTRIES; (4) GOVERNMENT PUBLICATIONS IN AUSTRALIA, CANADA, GREAT BRITAIN, NEW ZEALAND, AND THE UNITED STATES, AS WELL AS INTERNATIONAL INDEXES; (5) CURRENT AWARENESS SERVICES (CARD SERVICES, ACQUISITION LISTS, RESEARCH LISTS AND SERVICES, DIGESTS, AND NEWSLETTERS); (6) INFORMATION RETRIEVAL SYSTEMS (CRIMINOLOGICAL AND RELATED DATA BASES); AND (7) STATISTICAL SOURCES (AUSTRALIA, CANADA, GREAT BRITAIN, AND NEW ZEALAND).
