NINE ANSWER-KEYED CIVIL SERVICE TESTS CONTAINING OVER 1,050 MULTIPLE-CHOICE QUESTIONS ARE PRESENTED AS A STUDY AID FOR POLICE OFFICERS SEEKING PROMOTION TO THE RANK OF SERGEANT.
Abstract
THE TESTS WERE SELECTED FROM EXAMINATIONS ADMINISTERED BY CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSIONS AND POLICE PERSONNEL BOARDS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY IN THE EARLY 1970'S. PRECEDING EACH TEST IS A NOTE POINTING OUT UNUSUAL ASPECTS OF THE TEST AND OFFERING STUDY HINTS. QUESTIONS CONCERNING LOCAL MATTERS ARE INCLUDED, SO THAT CANDIDATES CAN BECOME ACQUAINTED WITH THE TYPES OF QUESTIONS THEY ARE LIKELY TO BE ASKED ABOUT THEIR OWN LOCAL REGULATIONS, RULES, ORDINANCES, AND PRACTICES. A TREND TOWARD LONGER EXAMINATIONS, A LACK OF IMAGINATION ON THE PART OF THOSE WHO PREPARE PROMOTIONAL EXAMINATIONS, AND A SHORTAGE OF QUESTIONS PERTAINING TO RELATIVELY NEW POLICE TECHNIQUES ARE NOTED. FOR OTHER VOLUMES OF ANSWER-KEYED POLICE SERGEANT TESTS, SEE NCJ-51324 (PUBLISHED IN 1968) AND NCJ-51326 (PUBLISHED IN 1976). (LKM)
