COURSE TOPICS FOR A MASTERS DEGREE CURRICULUM IN PROGRAM EVALUATION ARE SUGGESTED.
Abstract
THE CURRICULUM CONSISTS OF SEVEN CORE COMPONENTS: PROGRAM EVALUATION, PROGRAM PLANNING AND NEED ASSESSMENT, PROCESS AND OUTCOME MONITORING, INFORMATION SYSTEM DESIGN, INFORMATION SYSTEM IMPLEMENTATION, ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR, AND A PRACTICUM SEQUENCE. IT ALSO CONTAINS THE FOLLOWING NINE ELECTIVE AND ADVANCED COURSES: PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION, COMMUNITY PSYCHOLOGY, HUMAN SERVICE SYSTEMS, GROUP DYNAMICS, BASIC COMPUTER METHODS, BASIC STATISTICS, MEASUREMENT, ADVANCED STUDY DESIGN, AND SYSTEMS PROGRAMMING. THE FIRST YEAR OF THE MASTERS DEGREE PROGRAM COULD INCLUDE THE CORE COURSES AND THE PRACTICUM SEQUENCE, PLUS THREE ELECTIVES. THE SECOND YEAR COULD CONSIST OF FULL-TIME FIELD PLACEMENT. THE CURRICULUM COULD BE USED ALSO IN DOCTORAL PROGRAM'S IN THE SOCIAL SCIENCES AND HUMAN SERVICES. BRIEF SUMMARIES OF PROPOSED COURSE CONTENTS ARE PROVIDED. THE NEW YORK DEPARTMENT OF MENTAL HYGIENE'S JOB CLASSIFICATION SCHEDULE FOR ITS PROGRAM EVALUATION UNIT IS RECOMMENDED AS A SENSIBLE APPROACH TO STAFFING SUCH UNITS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE EDUCATIONAL LEVELS REQUIRED OF PROGRAM LEADERSHIP AND KEY SERVICE DELIVERY PERSONNEL.
