Abstract
FOUR SECTIONS COMPRISING THE HANDBOOK DEAL WITH THE ORGANIZATION OF A NEIGHBORHOOD CRIME PREVENTION GROUP, THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CRIME PREVENTION PROGRAM, THE OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF A NEIGHBORHOOD GROUP, AND GROUP EVALUATION AND BENEFITS. PARTICULAR AREAS OF CONCERN ARE ORGANIZING A MEETING AGENDA, RECRUITING GROUP MEMBERS, DEVELOPING GROUP LEADERSHIP, GATHERING INFORMATION ABOUT LOCAL PROBLEMS, ASCERTAINING SPECIFIC CITIZEN CRIME PREVENITON ACTIVITIES, ESTABLISHING GROUP OPERATING PROCEDURES, TRAINING, MOTIVATING A GROUP, EVALUATING RESOURCES AND FUNDING, CONDUCTING EVALUATION AND FEEDBACK, AND ASSESSING THE BENEFITS OF NEIGHBORHOOD CRIME PREVENTION GROUPS. NEIGHBORHOOD GROUPS CAN BENEFIT BY COOPERATING WITH THE POLICE AND CITY OFFICIALS AND BY UTILIZING AVAILABLE RESOURCES. ASSISTANCE USUALLY EXISTS FOR PUBLICITY, TRAINING, PLANNING OF GROUP MEETINGS, EVALUATION, PROGRAMS AND WORKSHOPS, AND FUNDRAISING. THE LIBRARY IS ALSO A VITAL SOURCE OF INFORMATION.
