THE AGENCY RESPONSIBLE FOR PRISONS AND PROBATION AND PAROLE SUPERVISION IN FLORIDA REPORTS ITS ACTIVITIES FOR FISCAL 1976-1977.
Abstract
THE REPORT OPENS WITH A SUMMARY OF THE STRUCTURE, GOALS, OBJECTIVES, AND MAJOR PROBLEMS OF THE DEPARTMENT. CRIMINAL JUSTICE TRENDS (CRIME RATES, PROBATION ADMISSIONS, INMATE COMMITMENTS AND RELEASES) AFFECTING CORRECTIONS ARE NOTED. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR IMPROVING THE DEPARTMENT'S OPERATIONS, INCLUDING A DETAILED WORK-HOUR FORMULA FOR FUNDING COMMUNITY SERVICES STAFF, ARE PRESENTED. THE REPORT FEATURES AN ANALYSIS OF THE FLOW OF OFFENDERS THROUGH THE CORRECTIONAL SYSTEM, FROM PRETRIAL INTERVENTION THROUGH RELEASE. EACH PHASE OF THE PROCESS IS DESCRIBED AND DEPICTED IN A FLOWCHART. EACH OF THE DEPARTMENT'S FIVE REGIONS REPORTS ON THE STATUS OF ITS INSTITUTIONS, COMMUNITY FACILITIES, AND CONVICTED OFFENDER POPULATION. A MAP SHOWING PROPOSED AND PLANNED CONSTRUCTION IS PROVIDED. THE FISCAL REPORT NOTES THE CREATION OF REGIONAL MANAGEMENT AND BUDGET OFFICES DURING THE YEAR. THE REPORT CLOSES WITH STATISTICS ON FLORIDA'S INMATE AND PROBATIONER AND PAROLEE POPULATIONS, PLUS CASELOAD PROJECTIONS THROUGH 1980. (LKM)
