INFORMATION ON SCHOOLS THAT OFFER COLLEGE CREDIT THROUGH INDEPENDENT STUDY AND CORRESPONDENCE COURSES IS PRESENTED IN A REFERENCE MANUAL WRITTEN PRIMARILY FOR PRISON INMATES.
Abstract
THE MANUAL, WHICH WAS COMPILED WHILE THE AUTHOR WAS IN PRISON, PROVIDES GENERAL INFORMATION ON INDEPENDENT STUDY -- ADMISSION PROCEDURES, COSTS AND FEES, COLLEGE CREDIT, CREDIT TRANSFER, TESTS AND GRADING, DEGREES, THE ADVANTAGES OF CORRESPONDENCE STUDY, INFORMATION FOR VETERANS, AND SOURCES OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. THE DIRECTORY SECTION LISTS AND DESCRIBES THE PROGRAMS OF MORE THAN 300 SCHOOLS, INCLUDING COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES OFFERING TRADITIONAL CORRESPONDENCE PROGRAMS, AND SCHOOLS WITH ON-CAMPUS PROGRAMS FOR PART-TIME STUDENTS. ALTHOUGH THE MANUAL WAS WRITTEN WITH PRISONERS IN MIND, IT CONTAINS INFORMATION ON USE TO ALL PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS, TO THEIR PARENTS AND GUIDANCE COUNSELORS, AND TO PRISON ADMINISTRATORS, COUNSELORS, EDUCATIONAL PERSONNEL, LIBRARIANS, AND LEGAL STAFF. AN INDEX IS PROVIDED. (LKM)
