ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF CONTRACT SECURITY VERSUS PROPRIETARY SECURITY ARE EVALUATED IN LIGHT OF RISING CRIME RATES AMONG U.S. BUSINESSES.
Abstract
CONTRACT SECURITY IS THE USE OF AN OUTSIDE CONTRACTUAL AGENCY TO PROVIDE A SUBSTANTIAL MEASURE OF SECURITY FOR THE CONTRACTING COMPANY. THE CONTRACTUAL AGENCY PROVIDES THIS SERVICE THROUGH SECURITY OFFICERS AND INVESTIGATORS WHO ARE HIRED, TRAINED, SUPERVISED, AND MANAGED BY THE CONTRACTING COMPANY. ADVANTAGES OF CONTRACT SECURITY ARE A PERFORMANCE CONTRACT THAT GIVES THE CONTRACTING COMPANY A STRONG LEVER TO INSURE A CERTAIN PERFORMANCE LEVEL FROM THE CONTRACTUAL AGENCY, SECURITY EXPERTISE, SPECIFIC INSURANCE, FEWER ADMINSTRATIVE BURDENS, STABILITY IN PERSONNEL REQUIREMENTS, AND LOWER COSTS. DISADVANTAGES OF CONTRACT SECURITY ARE NO LOYALTY TO THE CONTRACTING COMPANY, INADEQUATE TRAINING AND SUPERVISION, LOW WAGES, POOR PERFORMANCE, AND NO IMMEDIATE CONTROL. ADVANTAGES OF PROPRIETARY SECURITY PERTAIN TO THE IMAGE OF THE COMPANY, LOYALTY, CONTROL, PERSONNEL SELECTION, TRAINING, AND FAMILIARITY. DISADVANTAGES OF PROPRIETARY SECURITY ARE HIGH ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS AND WAGES, UNIFORM AND EQUIPMENT COSTS, HIGHER TRAINING COSTS, ABSENTEE COSTS, AND THE INFLEXIBILITY OF MANPOWER. (DEP)
