Abstract
THE TRAINING SECTION OF THE SWEDISH NATIONAL POLICE BOARD DETERMINES SUBJECTS AND EDUCATIONAL ASSIGNMENTS FOR POLICE COLLEGES, COUNTY AUTHORITIES, AND LOCAL POLICE DISTRICTS, AND PRODUCES CURRICULUM TEACHING MATERIALS. POLICE CANDIDATES ATTEND THE ULRIKSDAL POLICE COLLEGE FOR THE BASIC COURSE THAT LASTS 41 WEEKS AND INCLUDES THEORY AND PRACTICE. THEY SERVE TWO YEARS OF DUTY ROTATING AMONG THE VARIOUS DEPARTMENTS OF A POLICE DISTRICT. THE 10-WEEK SERGEANT'S COURSE IS OBLIGATORY FOR MANY POLICE AND PROVIDES TRAINING IN POLICE THEORY, LAW, AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENCE. OTHER COURSES AT URIKSDAL FOR UNIFORMED POLICE AND DETECTIVES ARE OUTLINED. SOLNA POLICE COLLEGE PROVIDES FURTHER TRAINING FOR INSPECTORS, SUPERINTENDENTS, AND CHIEF CONSTABLES, WHOSE COURSES INCLUDE MANAGEMENT THEORY, PROBLEM SOLVING, POLICE STRATEGY AND ORGANIZATION, AND LAW. COMPLETION OF THE APPROPRIATE SOLNA COURSE AND DESIGNATED EXPERIENCE ARE NECESSARY FOR PROMOTION TO THE ABOVE RANKS. SOLNA OFFERS OTHER COURSES IN ADVANCED DETECTION AND TEACHER TRAINING. TRAFFIC TRAINING AND DOG HANDLING ARE TAUGHT AT STRANGNAS AND SOLLEFTEA COLLEGES RESPECTIVELY, BUT THESE PROGRAMS AND MOUNTAIN RESCUE ARE ORGANIZED ON A COUNTY LEVEL. PHYSICAL EDUCATION, WEAPONS, GUARD DUTY AND EQUIPMENT USE TRAINING ARE TAUGHT LOCALLY, AND THE NATIONAL BOARD STRESSES PHYSICAL FITNESS. LISTS ARE INCLUDED OF COURSES FOR NEW OFFICERS, SERGEANTS, INSPECTORS, AND SUPERINTENDENTS; TABLES SHOW THE STRUCTURE OF THE NATIONAL BOARD TRAINING DIVISION AND RECRUITMENT STATISTICS. (PAP)
