AN INSTRUCTORS MANUAL TO BE USED WITH THE CORRECTIONAL OFFICER TRAINING (COT) PACKAGE OF 17 BOOKLETS IS PRESENTED; ADMINISTERING TESTS, GRADING TESTS, AND LEADING GROUP DISCUSSIONS ARE EMPHASIZED.
Abstract
THE PURPOSE OF THE COT PACKAGE IS TO TRAIN CORRECTIONAL PERSONNEL, PARTICULARLY CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS, TO USE THE BASIC TECHNIQUES OF BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION IN THE MANAGEMENT AND REHABILITATION OF INMATES. ALTHOUGH THE TRAINING BOOKLETS ARE SELF-INSTRUCTIONAL, THE INSTRUCTOR SHOULD BE AVAILABLE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS AND TO HELP TRAINEES PRACTICE WHAT THEY ARE LEARNING. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT THE INSTRUCTOR HAVE EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE IN BEHAVIORAL TECHNOLOGY. THE INSTRUCTOR SHOULD FOCUS ON ONE BOOKLET PER SESSION, WITH SESSIONS HELD 2 OR 3 TIMES PER WEEK. EACH SESSION MUST INCLUDE ADMINISTRATION AND GRADING OF THE PRETEST, ADMINISTRATION OF THE TRAINING BOOKLET, ADMINISTRATION AND GRADING OF THE POSTTEST, REVIEW OF EACH INDIVIDUAL'S WEAK AREAS, AND GROUP DISCUSSION OF DAILY MATERIAL. WHEN THE 17 BOOKS ARE COMPLETED, THE INSTRUCTOR WILL CONDUCT A PRACTICUM ON IMPLEMENTING THE LEARNED TECHNIQUES. TRAINING SPACE AND EQUIPMENT NEEDS ARE SPECIFIED.
